The facility was built in the 1970s to meet the needs of the aging population of Elmwood Park and surrounding communities. It became a final home for the elderly and those who could no longer live alone. Over the years that has changed. Generations at Elmwood Park has changed from being a traditional nursing home to one providing sub-acute and transitional care.
In the early 2000’s Generations at Elmwood Park discovered a need for residents requiring ventilator support. In 2003 the facility opened a 10 bed ventilator unit. Many of those residents were also in need of dialysis services and the bedside dialysis program evolved. Today Generations at Elmwood Park can support 40 ventilator-dependent residents and has a dialysis suite with 8 dialysis chairs. In addition to the sub-acute unit, the facility has renovated the entire facility bringing warmth through subtle hues and colors. Residents rehab in an enlarged therapy space and can lounge or browse the internet in the coffee shop throughout the day.
Finally, in 2016, the community rebranded as part of the Generations Healthcare Network family. For seniors, Generations healthcare communities are the affordable long-term residential or short-term rehabilitation stay of choice. Generations at Elmwood Park is a senior care community that offers compassionate person-centered care with high quality medical services in a warm family-like setting. Through quality-of-life activities and concierge-level service, Generations honors the unique value of senior residents and guests by honoring them as part of our family setting.
